DO YOU KNOW COLIN?

Post by spen » 14 Sep 2008 10:14

Hi all! I was given the link to your forum from someone on the Thorn Tree! I have a posting there under BANG SAPHAN and HUA HIN dated 13 Sept at 02:59.
I hope someone can help me. I am looking for my brother, COLIN MARTIN (age54) from NZ. He planned to go to Bang Saphan in May this year, perhaps to teach English. He also knows Hua Hin well. His email address has closed down thru lack of use which is unusual, as we were to get together either in Vietnam or Thailand. I am concerned for his health and welfare so can't think of what else to do to find him, short of quitting my teaching job here in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and waving his photo around Bang Sapan! Please post a reply if you know of him or ask him to EMAIL ME urgently. THANKS!
SUE

Hi Sue,
I have met a Kiwi called Colin who fits your description a month or two ago. Maybe on of the residents can update you with more info.

I can see your concern.

I also know a guy called Colin who exactly fits the description that you gave. I saw and spoke to him yesterday in Montri's bar. I was telling him about the various visa options he had when he went back to NZ.

It was actually the first time I have seen him for about a month. That's more to do with me being a hermit and the bad weather we have had recently.

I will go back but later, weather permitting, and leave a message somewhere telling him to login to this forum and communicate with you that way.

I normally only see him at weekends when he is not working but I understand he does get out and about in the evenings.

He was looking in top shape when I saw him.

UPDATE******************************

Sue,
I have spoken to Montri who says he thinks that Colin has gone to Bangkok to get on a plane to go to NZ. I gather from what he was saying yesterday that the trip was planned. I just did not know it would happen so soon.

I have left a message which will be passed to his Kiwi pals who may be able to contact him before he jumps on a plane. However, if not, I guess you can contact him when he gets home. That should be later today or tomorrow.

Just spoke to another brother in NZ who is looking after his house etc.... he has heard nothing and doesn't know of him coming back BEFORE November...so it may be someone else.
I will phone NZ again in a couple of days.
In the meantime, any other info would be appreciated.... THANKS!

hI,
I think the Colin you refer to comes to my bar a couple of times a week. I'm not sure where is is actually living but when I see him next I will give him your message. The last time I saw him he was talking about returning to NZ. as he was unable to find a position teaching locally.

Thanks Cliveyten.
If he is still around, I will fly into BKK on Sunday evening then train down on Monday.

my email address is...ooops disallowed!
Ok. I'll try this...

He's not very computer savvy so it might be a bit much to just tell him to log on, then register at this website to contact me, :)
(and his email address is non-functional anyway. He just got it set up for the first-time-ever, earlier this year.)

I was thinking more on the lines of taking him to the nearest PC and doing it for him.

Anyway I have sent an email to your address.

Well folks, this is the end of this story.
I have now confirmed - by phoning our other brother again in NZ - that COLIN IS BACK IN NZ! So half the rumours were right. THANKS for your input, esp 'guess' and 'cliveyten'
I have yet to decide whether or not to use my non-refundable ticket SGN > BKK, if I do I will catch up with some of you at Montri's, no doubt!
Cheers

Hemingway,

Welcome to the forum. The train timetable has just changed and a new timetable is available but mostly in Thai.

Take a look here on this forum

The first 1 - 13 are trains leaving Hua Hin on the first time and arriving in Bang Saphan on the second. The nest 1 - 12 is the return journey
