Nai Lok Waterfall

This one is way off the beaten track and not easy to find - hence very few people have actually been there. It is situated right on the Burmese border, approx 40km from BS Yai past the Pong 30 lake. There is a good 15km of dirt roads in various states, and hills to negotiate so not for a standard sedan or moped, as we climbed we were rewarded with some stunning views down towards the coast and ocean.

Finally we came to what seemed to be a check point, the rangers told us to take a right turn down a mud road and "follow the river". Another border checkpoint a few kilometers down greeted us where another bored ranger noted our plates as the physical border with Myanmar is unknown past this point. Then it is a few kilometers of broken path into the jungle until we could ride no more - the trek is about another kilometer, maybe less, some of it through dense jungle some via the river where it is shallow - none of it is marked or signposted and the 'path' is very vague. This trip felt like a discovery expedition as it was obvious that this place does not get regular visitors like Sai Ku (not as much trash here).

We proceeded at a slow pace towards the sound of the waterfall which was still hidden by dense foliage. Finally our first glimpse of the cascade revealed itself through the undergrowth and we were awed by the natural beauty of one of the few remaining places unspoiled by humanity. Naturally the first instinct was to jump in for a swim, the photos do not do justice to the size of these falls.

We stopped at the lake on the way back to see what the fishermen had caught.

Due to its remoteness and relative inaccessibility we wont be seeing Bangkokians in SUVs parked up here for the weekend so the hope remains that this spot remains pristine. Me posting it on the internet probably wont help but I haven't given you directions on how to get there yet .... bwaaahhahahhaha!

Note: apologies for the photo quality, they were taken on a crappy mobile phone camera!
