Don't want to stray off topic, but always wondered what a true ploughman meal (lunch) is? My side of the pond sounds dull without it!!

Ploughman's Lunch

As far as I am aware, 'The Ploughman's Lunch' originated in Somerset. The farmers would be in the field ploughing and the wives would bring them lunch...Cider, Bread, Cheese & Onion.

Our Ploughman's consists of;

Salad & Sping Onions
A lump of Chedder Cheese
Branston Pickle
Large Pickled Onion
Hot Crusty Baguette & Butter.

In England you would get Celery as well, but we have trouble keeping this fresh and or course the availability is not consistant.

I believe the ploughman originally came from the Somerset area> The farmers used to get Cheddar Cheese, Crusty bread with various pickles and salad. The added bonus was a jar of Scrumpy cider. Shame you cannot get it over here. Cider is available but very expensive.
