Major flooding in Bangsaphan

Postby buksida » 06 Dec 2016 11:50

After three days of relentless downpours the river has burst and the road to town is impassable at the time of writing. There are rumours that the dam has been opened to prevent further flooding and this (if true) has caused the rivers in Suan Luang to burst, hence the entire stretch between the Coral Hotel and Thepparat school for the deaf is now under at least two feet of water.

This is outside our house:

I have heard about bad floodings in the past but this bad...I could not have imagined. Looks like a tsunami hit town! Hope everyone is ok under the circumstances. Looks like much property damage unfortunately?

Out of interest, did they give you any warning that they were about to open the dams to give people an opportunity to move belongings high, or was it the usual that people found out when the water came knocking at the front door?

I've read in the past of people dying when they open Kaeng Krachan because no warning is given.

Surely, an essential but very dangerous action, which does not just happen. There must be a period where they start consideration of releasing water before it is released. We all know the consequences, so one would hope warning was given. Maybe a warning siren an hour before release. They seem to have a network of speakers countrywide to bring people news morning and night, so little investment would be required.

Big Boy ,you are so right "little investment would be required" However what they are lacking is "The process of thinking before doing or talking"

It is staggering to see the damage and all the heartbreak you folk must be suffering. I hope the skies are blue now.

We were in Bang Saphan for a few days at the beginning of February. I hope Theatre Villa is OK.
